What a day it turned out to be at Portarlington for our Round 2.
32 Members came out in force again continuing record participation, to welcome our Naming Rights sponsor ECO Waste Services
and take part in 1st round of Ivan Marks Shield. It was a spectacular sight on a beautiful summer morning with a golf course as a backdrop for a group photo (attached), followed by 8 groups of 4 taking off on a 4-hour golfing journey. There was a usual mixture of happy & frustrated faces out on a golf course and later in the club house, and plenty of “could have been” stories, but no one complained about the experience. It is also pleasing to see a crop of next generation golfers joining the club, which all goes well for the future of our Club. Welcome to all our new members and we sincerely hope you’ll find the atmosphere enjoyable & well worth being a part of.
As for the scoring on the day, it didn’t reflect the perfect playing conditions with large number of players scoring in the high 70’s and up to mid 80’s. Of course there always are exceptions and first round after receiving his club handicap, John Kindtner came in with a 61 net score to leave a wide gap between himself & the rest of the field. Couple of other players shot in the 60’s which was a great effort on their part.
